These peppers were overwintered and are two years old at this time. The leaves and stems have purple veining and medium dark foliage. Flowers are a rich purple and open pointing downward but once pollinated, they slowly turn upwards so the pepper grows upright. They start out a rich dark purple and ripen through cream, yellow, orange, and red stages. Red is the final ripe color. Surprisingly hot without much flavor; these make an excellent hot pepper jelly or a neutral tasting hot pepper powder if you want to add some heat without affecting flavor of the food. Gorgeous when grown as an ornamental.
